"Y" Gardening Terms
Here are some of the common and not so common terms you will hear or read about when dealing with gardening.
yard: The land area surrounding your home.
yard of mulch: A cubic yard of mulch equals 3 feet wide x 3 feet long x 3 feet deep
yard waste: Branches, twigs, leaves, grass cuttings and other debris from your yard.
yellowing leaves: A sign of too little magnesium, too little iron or too much water. Can also be a sign that fall is fast approaching.
yellow with dark spots: Leaves that have turned yellowish and have black dots and smudges on them are likely infected with Black Spot but can also have Maple anthraconose. Dispose of leaves from plants infected by either of these as they can overwinter on infected materials.
This list is by no means a complete collection of horticultural techniques and terms.
